We had another outstanding weekend trip to the very popular Area 52 site in Herkimer, owned by Shane and Sherry Moore aka Area 51 Miners.  They once again granted us a collecting trip to search for Herkimer quartz and diamonds, and it did not disappoint!  Thanks again to their overturning of the site, we had great odds to find some great quartz specimens in and out of matrix.  Folks wasted no time in spreading out amongst the various pits and workings to set up shop and start digging in soil and rock to find the crystals.  Recent rains and strong sun helped identify a lot of surface and near surface finds.  

Shane and Sherry held a free drawing for some outstanding boxed assortments of specimens, and this was greatly appreciated by all !!!  Some of the winners were Julia Chien, Rich Drake and others.  

NOTABLE FINDS:

1. Ken Napolitano - several 1 inch - 2 inch terminated crystals
2. Yu Lin - Several larger skeletal and non skeletal Herks
3. Groundhog Dave - some small crystals in large Dolomitic boulder / matrix
4. Rich Drake - Dolomite crystals on some small rocks / boulders
5. Lois Merle - cluster of small micro crystals on matrix

We greatly appreciate Shane and Sherry's hospitality on the trip and look forward to another opportunity if luck has it!
