John “Mr. Tie Dye” Brandauer will be giving 1st VP a try. Justin’s has decided to step down, but remain active with the club. We briefly discussed having the “end-of-year” meeting in December as opposed to November, which seemed okay to those present. The speaker will be Paul Cyr talking about a series of classic mines he has been visiting and his finds. Rutgers Open House and FMNJ bringing rocks to giveaway to kids. Small size is preferred. I mentioned having labels (no bigger than fortune cookie with specimen name) but this was not supported by everyone. Although he was not present, Dave Wilt has offered to revisit the design of a new banner for FMNJ and an advertising flyer of some sort. Dave S. will talk to Dave W. before next meeting. Dave S. asked for feedback on the advertising cards that Bill Pazik made; specifically, on how the wording of the 1st paragraph should sound to be more enticing. KC asked Dave S. to check with Friends National about their mission statement to see if it has changed at all and how it matches FMNJ’s statement. KC suggested the 1st paragraph start with “We are…”. Dave S. is writing a statement for FMNJ to submit to Friends National and wanted member input; however, several members informed him that they are comfy with him drafting and sending it. there is no need to waste club time on it. There is an opportunity for FMNJ to have a tour of the Peabody Museum at Yale Univ. This backstage tour is courtesy of Gail Spann who is attending the Peabody Museum symposium. The cost is $100 per person to attend the all-day Symposium on Sat. Following the meeting, Dave S. found out the tour would be Friday before the symposium. There is also a reception Friday night at the hall where symposium will be held. The tour would be suitable for group of 7-8, maybe 10 max,. due to the small size of back-office rooms. There is an opportunity to collect at Ron Schulz house on Sun. Nov, 5th. Interested members should let Dave S. know. He will provide time and address. It is mostly geared for newbies to intermediates collectors. The 5th installment of Mineral Mayhem yielded $32 to the FMNJ bank account. KC presented on his experience attending and purchasing mineral specimens at shows. discussed shows and why member might want to go, like going to museum getting in with dealers so they will source minerals for you Illinois – over rated look out for dealers that drastically reduce prices dealer expects you to haggle over price but be prepared to buy to earn respect of dealer
