Junior Rockhounds: Mineral Identification

Location: Howell Library 318 Old Tavern Rd, Howell, NJ

The first 15 minutes will be for anyone wanting to show and tell about a rock or two they have. Then we will be starting the Special Effects badge. There are some rocks that have unique characteristics, for this badge we will explore them. 

 

The rocks I gave away last meeting were:

•  Talc, Balmat, Zinc Mining District, St. Lawrence Co., NY              

•  Calcite, Buckwheat Dump. Franklin NJ

•  Fluorite 

•  Feldspar, Hewitt Gem Mine, Haddam CT               

•  Quartz

•  Magnetite, feldspar, Balls Hill Iron Mine, Franklin, NJ 

•  Red shale

•  Red calcite
