From Pickaxes to Price Tags: Collecting & Buying in AZ

Join us for a mineral adventure that begins on the road from New Jersey to Arizona and ends at the world-famous Tucson Mineral Show. Along the way, we’ll visit three classic Arizona collecting localities—Red Cloud Mine, North Geronimo Mine, and Scepter Hill—and share the experiences, challenges, and discoveries that made each stop memorable.

Go underground at the North Geronimo Mine in search of brilliant vanadinite, collecting 150 feet below the desert surface. Then head to Scepter Hill, where smoky quartz scepters can still be found scattered across the rugged landscape—along with a few scorpions to keep things interesting. We’ll also explore the historic Red Cloud Mine and the minerals that have made it famous among collectors.

Finally, we’ll arrive in Tucson for a look inside the world’s largest gathering of mineral dealers and collectors, highlighting some of the exceptional specimens encountered at the shows and offering a glimpse at the buying, selling, and spectacle that make Tucson a bucket-list destination for mineral enthusiasts.

To bring the journey to life, actual specimens collected at each of the three Arizona localities will be on display during the presentation.

From digging underground to shopping the showrooms, From Pickaxes to Price Tags follows the mineral-collecting experience from the thrill of finding specimens in the field to seeing some of the world’s finest minerals offered in Tucson.
