61st Annual Earth Science Gem and Mineral
- Location: Wilmington, DE
Date: 2/19/2019 12:00 AM
Amidst some stormy winter events, we got in and had an enjoyable and informative February Meeting. Pizza from Pizza & Pasta Factory definitely helped take the edge off winter’s cold, along with good conversation among those in attendance. Several members, including Ryan Klockner, “Mr Tie Dye” John Brandauer, and Will “Billy Boy” Pazik, brought in flats of specimens to sell, swap or observe under UV. Some discussion on the recently ended Tucson Show was had, with Rob Rybnicky sharing an account of activities he and family did out there. Will Pazik graciously assisted me in installing a replacement bulb in my SuperBright II shortwave lamp, and he also assisted Lynn in selecting a SW/LW lamp to purchase for Mikey Wright. We watched 2 DVDs, one covering the Adelaide Mine in Tasmania and the “What’s Hot in Tucson” from 2017. Unbelievable Crocoite specimens were seen in and out of caves, from Tasmania, and we got to see how it is mined and collected. As expected, the Tucson DVD did not disappoint, with numerous high-end dealers highlighted, showing off their prized pieces. Bob Jones expertly narrated and added lots of character to the production.Amidst some stormy winter events, we got in and had an enjoyable and informative February Meeting.
