Despite a modest turnout, we had an excellent and very informative presentation by Karenne Snow at our November FM-NJ meeting. We learned a lot about what makes a “Type Locality” for a mineral, and had plenty of examples to observe. Locations such as Franklin NJ, various locales in PA, other states, Greenland and Iceland were discussed, with the representative minerals shown. We learned that just because a mineral boasts a location in their given name, it does not necessarily a Type Location specimen make. As always, the pizza from Pizza + Pasta Factory was a hit and was enjoyed by everyone.
